Rosemont Residence by Reena Sotropa In House Design Group

Rosemont Residence is a project designed by Reena Sotropa In House Design Group. While designing the Rosemont Residence, emphasis fell on ensuring a stylish yet timeless home with high functionality to keep up with the busy lifestyle of our clients, a young family of five. As our very fashionable clients dreamt of a beautiful home that would stand the test of time – and their children – our approach incorporated a mix of modern and traditional styles with durable, kid-friendly finishes. The colour inspiration for the entire home was deeply rooted in a breathtaking Creative Matters area rug which Reena Sotropa and our very “hands-on” client found on one of their outings. The foundational elements of the living room were kept quite neutral, with the custom-made Kravet furniture adding just the right amount of colour to bridge the gap between the neutral whites and bright tones of the rug. Our client’s love of fashion is further represented by the Cathy Daley charcoal drawings from Newzones Gallery hung in the home.

The classic kitchen design showcases neutral tones compared to the rest of the main floor, with white Cristallo countertops and open shelving to feature our client’s extraordinary collection of pottery from her hometown in Saskatchewan. The grey stain on the kitchen island adds warmth and contrast while connecting to other millwork located on the main floor, like the built-in storage in the mudroom. The majority of the appliances are paneled and integrated to maintain a seamless look, while the handmade, beveled Ann Sacks subway tile backsplash adds texture to the space. The custom-made hood fan was designed with a silver accent finish to tie in the nickel details of the kitchen.

Not only is their kitchen nook aesthetically pleasing and fun, it also aces the efficiency test! The built-in window bench doubles as a seating area and storage space. This nook has become one of the main family hang-out areas for playing games and crafting, with the surrounding cabinets housing all of the kids’ craft supplies so nothing is ever too far out of reach. Our client’s eye for design extends far beyond fashion! When we proposed the iconic Saarinen table by Knoll paired with the gorgeous Eames chairs, she knew a winning combination when she saw one! These classic pieces are not just easy on the eyes, they’re also incredibly durable (double win).

In comparison to the main floor which is full of colour and punchy details, the master bedroom and bathroom are much more subtle and relaxing spaces. We wanted the principal suite to become a personal retreat for our clients, where they could go to press pause on their busy day-to-day lives. To achieve this, we went with a more serene neutral palette. The beautiful nightstands were handmade by our client’s father-in-law! If you look closely at the wall treatment, you’ll notice the delicate shimmering Osborne & Little wallcovering that we chose to add a little of our signature sparkle to an otherwise subdued space, aligning this room with the metallic details on the main floor. In the principal bathroom, unwilling to sacrifice the abundance of natural light, we installed a frosted film on the window rather than drapery. The natural light is perfect for makeup application (AKA flawless blending), so we included a makeup vanity so our client could have her own space to get ready. Fun fact: the middle mirror between the two sinks at the vanity houses a hidden TV so the clients can enjoy the morning news or watch a movie (cartoons for the kids) while relaxing in the bath!

When designing a bedroom for our client’s five year old daughter, we wanted to ensure that we were investing in timeless furniture that she could grow with. One thing that we did decide to make pint-sized was the teensy-tiny adorable door that leads to an even cuter little playhouse under the eaves of the home. We checked with our client, confirmed that her fave colour was, in fact, pink and then painted the entire interior of her playhouse in, you guessed it – PINK! Meanwhile, the beautiful metallic gold flower wallpaper from Hygge & West ties the room into the rest of the house.

The specific needs of our clients mixed with their impeccable taste resulted in a truly show-stopping and whimsical home that supports the ever-changing life of their busy family.
