Sandy Bay Pool House by Studio Ilk Architecture + Interiors

Sandy Bay Pool House is a project designed by Studio Ilk Architecture + Interiors. Long-standing clients approached us to bring some polish and drama to their well-loved, but tired Sandy Bay home. The exterior landscaping and pool had been a previous project by Studio Ilk and the renovation of the interior was to complete the transformation. Photography by Peter Mathew.

The brief demanded a show-piece entertaining kitchen with a bent on functionality; a designated study space and the overall aesthetic needed to be luxurious yet classic and create a backdrop to complement their treasured Tasmanian artwork collection.

Circulation was rationalised by relocating the stairs to a light filled addition outside the fabric of the existing building. This freed up the internal lobby to create an entry with more grandeur, where art could be displayed, while also providing more space for storage.

Local timbers paired with dramatic large format porcelain panels brought luxury and tactility to the finish.
