BATTERSEA TOWNHOUSE by Indie & Co.

BATTERSEA TOWNHOUSE is a project designed by Indie & Co. This particularly beautiful Victorian terraced house which sits between Battersea and Clapham was in need of an update and to be brought in line with our clients’ lifestyle and tastes. The house benefited from some beautiful original features which we kept as a backdrop for the new scheme. Our clients wanted something that would be sympathetic to the style of the house – an appreciation of the building’s history – but also reflect their more modern and minimalist style. We worked with Roundhouse Design to create a modern shaker style kitchen with a strong dark colour that would create some drama against the subtle and soft tones of the pale concrete floor and white marble worktops. By adding in some brass, oak and other natural materials we were able to bring warmth to the scheme. This is a theme we took into the other rooms around the home which creates a sense of consistency and flow throughout.

In the living room, hallway and office we decided to go back to the original floor boards which we treated with lye and soap. Using the original boards brought a further element of authenticity which grounds the schemes and helps to link the spaces together. Strong feature lighting in the living room adds a touch of drama and interest. In the home office, we chose to go with pieces that possess a calming quality and beauty in order to aid concentration and creativity.

The family bathroom primarily uses microcement as it’s main material, echoing the flooring in the kitchen and dining room, as well as the marble of the vanity and bath top – these soft tones, natural and raw materials are intended to aid relaxation and contemplation. The gunmetal tapware from Cocoon again adds drama and grounds the bathroom with a subtle beauty.
