Santa Catarina Apartment by Paulo Spessatto Arquitetura

Paulo Spessatto Designs Seaside Apartment with Natural Aesthetics and a Cozy Atmosphere. Located in Balneário Piçarras, a coastal town in the northern region of Santa Catarina, Brazil, this 125-square-meter apartment was designed by architect Paulo Spessatto as a true seaside retreat. Created for a woman seeking a welcoming space to enjoy weekends with her children, the project aims to provide a sense of disconnection from urban life, embracing a light, comfortable, and sensorial atmosphere. The entire proposal is guided by a contemporary beach style with influences from naturalist design. Clean lines, a neutral base, and warm tones are combined with organic elements to create sophisticated environments that maintain spontaneity. From the start, the concept embraced a nature-inspired language, integrating the interior with the landscape while prioritizing natural materials and soft textures. The apartment underwent no structural changes—only electrical updates—highlighting the subtlety of the interior design in adapting efficiently to the existing layout.

Natural light plays a leading role throughout the day, thanks to large openings that enhance the sense of integration. At night, the lighting design relies on warm, diffused light, including natural fiber pendants above the dining table, to create an inviting and emotional ambiance. Recessed LED profiles and strategically placed lighting fixtures ensure functionality while enhancing the cozy atmosphere without visually overwhelming the space.

Right at the entrance, a green Guatemala marble console sets the tone for the project, balancing sophistication and lightness. The social area is open and fluid, with living and dining spaces flowing harmoniously. Neutral-toned furniture is enriched with textures from linen and cotton fabrics, while cane, wood, and woven fibers reinforce the connection with the coastal surroundings. The solid wood dining table with a sculptural trunk base is paired with chairs featuring handwoven cane backs, and the natural fiber pendants provide gentle illumination.

Among the emotional highlights is the custom-made slipcover sofa, designed especially for the apartment based on a personal request from the client, contributing to the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere of the living area. Timeless, high-quality furnishings reinforce the project’s sustainable approach, complemented by energy-efficient LED lighting. The result is a space that embodies lightness, longevity, and effortless elegance—aligned with a more balanced and mindful lifestyle.

The balcony extends as a contemplative extension of the social area. A fiber armchair with cushions offers the perfect nook for reading or relaxing, with a direct view of the sea. An organically shaped coffee table completes the setting. In this context, each material choice reinforces the narrative of a timeless space deeply connected to nature.
The main bedroom features a bed with a natural wood headboard and integrated nightstands, complemented by light, airy curtains and bedding to maintain the desired sense of freshness and simplicity.

Finishes and materials are guided by three pillars that shape the entire project: functionality, sensorial comfort, and natural aesthetics. As a vacation home, it was essential to choose materials that are moisture-resistant, low maintenance, and pleasant to the touch and eye. Porcelain flooring ensures easy cleaning and visual lightness, while light wood veneer cabinetry and slatted panels create a warm and timeless base. Highlights include the sand-toned slatted wood paneling, which adds elegance and movement, and the organically shaped dining table, which serves as a central piece of the décor.
