This home is approached from the north where it is completely transparent, but as the driveway curves around the west side it becomes a collection of stacked rusted boxes without any openings.
Nico van der Meulen, founder of Nico van der Meulen Architects, designed this residence in a leafy Johannesburg suburb for his family, but also to use as his studio. At that time he had just started his own practice and decided to work from his home, specializing in the design of up-market residences.
Located at the foot of a nature reserve in Bedfordview, Johannesburg,Kloof Road House is the latest project by Nico van der Meulen Architects. The client’s brief called for a family orientated home suitable for indoor/outdoor entertainment that maximizes the views to the north.
