Quilter Street by Outpost

Quilter Street is a project designed by Outpost. We were approached towards the end of 2017 to consider the extension and refurbishment of this charming former workers cottage. Photography by French & Tye.

It became obvious from the outset, the interior should stand back and let the style of the creative clients, and their collection of furniture and objects do the talking. The palette of materials were kept simple and clean to celebrate the warmth of the antique timber furniture. Furthermore, new structure was expressed internally forming a further shelf space for objects and pieces.

The challenge we set ourselves was to develop a design for the extension that is sensitive to the modest qualities of this charming Victorian property with the aim of developing an interesting dialogue between old and new.
This project employs a range of traditional materials and modern detailing in interesting ways that help reduce the environmental impact of the building whilst also creating a beautiful space that sensitively connects interior and exterior and old and new spaces. Quilter Street is a beautifully crafted extension that ads a new lease of life to this much loved and humble Victorian terraced house.
